As captain of the DFB team, Joshua Kimmich will wear a black, red and gold ribbon in the first international match of the year on Saturday against Peru and all others up to the home European Championship in 2024, as the association announced on Wednesday.

The discussion about this had escalated due to the dispute with FIFA at the World Cup in Qatar before the first group games. At that time, the DFB, like some other teams, wanted to set an example for diversity with the so-called “One Love” loop.

This had been temporarily prohibited by the world association. “I have said everything about it. It must not be the case that these things are the focus again, but the team should simply play football. They should play football well, that is their job,” said team boss Hansi Flick.

At the European Championships in the summer of next year, the continental association UEFA will provide the captain’s ribbons. Logo or colors are not yet known.
