LINZ. The European marathon champion, Richard Ringer, answered questions at the kick-off evening of the marathon a few weeks ago in Linz. When it comes to fast times on the streets of the state capital on April 16, two of his compatriots will be up to date. With the currently fastest German marathon runner Domenika Mayer and climber Simon Boch, two hot stocks have already confirmed their participation before the final elite field will be presented a few days before the race.
The first start over the marathon distance on April 3, 2022 was intended as a spontaneous trip for the 32-year-old Mayer and ended like a dream – crowned with the overall victory of the Hanover marathon and the German championship title, the mother of two ran in 2:26:50 hours an internationally respectable top time. The women’s record in Linz is currently 2:30:27 – set by the Kenyan Brenda Jerotich Kiprono in 2021. The target for the 21st edition this year is clear: this should be beaten after the men’s in October last year – Time calculation was rewritten by Fikre Bekele (2:06:13).
“After health problems in the fall, my form is back in time. The clear goal is a new personal best,” says Mayer, who also wants to beat the Olympic standard in Linz. Boch, former German 10,000 meter champion, is also fascinated by the famously fast route in Upper Austria. His marathon best is 2:10:48.
