The two German Nordic combined athletes Julian Schmid and Vinzenz Geiger made a perfect start to the final World Cup weekend of this winter.
After a large hill jump and 2×7.5 kilometers each, Schmid and Geiger prevailed in the team sprint ahead of Norway (Joergen Graabak and Jarl Magnus Riiber) and France (Matteo Baud and Laurent Mühlthaler). Johannes Rydzek and Jakob Lange were the second German duo to finish eighth. There are still two individual competitions in Finland this weekend.
Johannes Lamparter of Austria is expected to win the overall World Cup for the first time. With two remaining competitions, he is 146 points ahead of World Championship silver winner Schmid. For Olympic champion Eric Frenzel, the last two singles of his career are on the agenda. “I feel comfortable with the decision,” said Frenzel before the competitions in Lahti.
