Three Argentines share second place at the Roberto De Vicenzo Golf Memorial

The Argentines Andrés ‘Pigu’ Romero, César Costilla and Rafael Echenique share second place, after completing today the second round of the Roberto De Vicenzo 100 Years Memorial, a contest that is held at the Ranelagh Golf Club and honors the figure of the emblematic character of the Argentine sport.

Romero, 41, from Tucumán, signed today a card of 69 shots (four birdies and two bogeys) to reach a total of 133 (nine under par on the course).

The native of Yerba Buena has already won a PGA Tour event and two on the European circuit.

Echenique from San Luis, for his part, designed the best round with a score of 65 hits (seven birdies, one bogey), which allowed him to climb 19 places compared to the opening day.

For his part, Costilla from Tucuman used 66 shots for the second round, which, added to the 67 at the start, give him a provisional record of 133 (-9). The second place in the classification of the contest is also shared by the American Chandler Blanchet and the New Zealander Charlie Hillier.

The only leader, after completing the first two rounds at Ranelagh Golf Club, is the American Davis Shore, with 132 shots (-10)

The event honors the best Argentine golfer in history, De Vicenzo from Buenos Aires, who will be 100 years old on April 14. Don Roberto passed away on June 1, 2017, at 94.

During his prolific sports career, De Vicenzo won the 1967 edition of the British Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club and was unable to repeat the conquest the following year at the Masters in Augusta, in the US, when an involuntary mistake (he scored the card wrong of a tour) committed by his teammate Tommy Aaron prevented him from keeping the Major tournament title that was finally won by Bob Goalby

This traditional competition, which integrates a station of the Latin American circuit of the PGA Tour, will deliver rewards for 175 thousand dollars.
