The six-time MotoGP champion, the Spanish Marc Márquez (Honda), took his first pole position of the season this Saturday after qualifying first for the Portuguese Grand Prix that will be held tomorrow at the Algarve circuit.

The 30-year-old Catalan pilot will also start in first place in the Sprint Race, a new short race format that opens this year on the same day as the classification.

The Sprint will start at noon in Argentina for 12 laps and will distribute points to the first nine drivers who cross the finish line with the following distribution scheme: 12 units to the winner, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 to the next.
Márquez secured his pole position with a time of 1m.37.226 which set a new lap record at the Portimao track. Thus, he won a classification for the first time since the 2022 Japanese GP, held in September.
The Spaniard will start this Sunday ahead of the current champion of the category, the Italian Francesco Bagnaia and his compatriot Jorge Martín, both with Ducati.
The Portuguese GP will start this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in Argentina with a broadcast on ESPN 2 and Star+ and is prior to the Argentine Republic Grand Prix, which will take place next Sunday at Termas de Río Hondo, Santiago del Estero.
