Union Berlin: Delegation in Rotterdam attacked by Feyenoord hooligans

Union Berlin competes at Feyenoord Rotterdam on Thursday. In the run-up, there was now an unpleasant incident, Union delegates were attacked by hooligans. The host apologized.

Before Union Berlin’s Conference League game at Feyenoord Rotterdam, an iron delegation in the Dutch city was assaulted.

“Fortunately, there were no serious injuries,” said Union press spokesman Christian Arbeit, describing the incident on Thursday morning. “You don’t expect something like that. About a third of them were women and older people too.”

Around 25 people had gathered in a bar not far from the Union Team Hotel on the eve of the away game. These included President Dirk Zingler and Oskar Kosche, a member of the Presidium. A larger group of people would then have attacked the Berlin delegation and pelted them with tables and chairs.

Incident with Union delegation: An arrest

“In an incident in a restaurant, chairs and other objects were thrown at several people. A victim was taken to hospital with injuries. The suspects have fled,” wrote the Rotterdam police Twitter . Nevertheless, it is said to have been arrested.

Host Feyenoord has since distanced itself from the incident and apologized to the Berliners:

In order to avoid further escalation, Union Berlin appealed to its supporters to go straight to the meeting point in the “Oude Haven” before the game and not to go through the city with small groups.
