In the summer, ÖFB team player Konrad Laimer and French striker Christopher Nkunku will leave German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. The confirmations from the new clubs Bayern Munich and Chelsea are still pending, but RB has long been planning without the duo.
The Austrian Christoph Baumgartner should also be a candidate in the search for a replacement. Laimer’s position has already been filled by Nicolas Seiwald from Salzburg.
It will be much more challenging to replace top scorer Nkunku. There is interest in the Canadian Jonathan David from OSC Lille, but the 23-year-old is likely to be too expensive. Significantly more affordable and also being considered is a commitment from Hoffenheim’s Baumgartner, who is the same age. In this case, a lot depends on whether Hoffenheim manages to stay up.
“We will lose skills in the summer that we need to bring back to the team. One of them is speed, especially in attack,” said coach Marco Rose.
