When thousands again start at the Linz Danube Marathon on April 16, voestalpine will also be there for the second time – after the 20th anniversary edition in October last year – as a strong partner. The international steel and technology group, which employs around 11,000 people in Upper Austria, is thus underscoring its regional commitment.

The partnership also shows the close ties with Upper Austria’s provincial capital, where the Group’s largest individual site is located in addition to the headquarters with the Steel Division.

“We are delighted to be a partner at the Linz Marathon again this year. Just like voestalpine, this event stands for top performance. For the fastest runners, we are once again providing unique trophies made from our innovative 3D metal printing this year “, says voestalpine CEO Herbert Eibensteiner. Last year, the winners of the full marathon distance were able to look forward to these very special trophies for the first time.

voestalpine plays a pioneering role worldwide in metallic 3D printing, in which the finest metal powder is melted and built up layer by layer to form highly complex parts. The know-how covers the entire production process: from the production of the metal powder to the design and production. 3D printing components are used in motor racing, aircraft construction, aerospace and the energy industry, among other things, and are therefore an example of the Group’s innovative strength.

Training workshop makes trophies

As in previous years, the remaining marathon trophies will be manufactured by young professionals in the modern training workshop at the Linz site. In this training center, the apprentices are prepared for the processes and procedures of a digitized working world using the latest technologies, including working with virtual reality glasses or using robotics.

The Linz Marathon traditionally starts at the Voestbrücke. There, as well as on the other bypass bridges of the A7, voestalpine creates more safety in road traffic. By installing crash barriers and crash cushions, voestalpine makes a significant contribution to safe driving. With these quality products, the group is a sought-after partner far beyond national borders.
