Handball Bundesliga: Füchse Berlin take back the lead in the table

The Foxes Berlin win 33:32 at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. SC Magdeburg and SG Flensburg-Handewitt also have to work hard for their victories. Kiel can counter on Sunday.

The Füchse Berlin have at least temporarily regained the lead in the Handball Bundesliga. The capital city won at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf with 33:32 (18:15) and displaced THW Kiel from the top position. However, the record champions can counter with a win in the game against the defending champions SC Magdeburg on Sunday.

The third-placed team of SCM trainer Bennet Wiegert prevailed in a hard-fought game 38:34 (16:17) at Bergisches HC. Fourth-placed SG Flensburg-Handewitt also had some trouble before SC DHfK Leipzig was defeated 30:27 (15:17).

The Berliners pulled away from 20:19 to 23:19 between the 35th and 42nd minute. However, Hannover fought back and was at eye level up to 31:32 (59 th ). Mijajlo Marsenic’s goal to make it 33:31 and a save by goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev made the decision for the capital city.

SCM backcourt player Smits with 14 goals

Backcourt player Kay Smits played a decisive part in the victory for Magdeburg. The Dutchman scored a total of 14 goals. The 26-year-old converted six of his seven penalty throws.

For the Flensburg team, the victory over the Saxons was the 20th game in a row without a defeat in all competitions. Bitter for the SG, however: The backcourt player Aaron Mensing, who was in excellent form recently, had to leave the field with an ankle injury before the change of sides.

HSG Wetzlar celebrated an important victory in the relegation battle. The Central Hesse won a 28:26 (11:10) away win at Frisch Auf Göppingen and thus further extended their lead over the basement children GWD Minden and ASV Hamm-Westfalen.
