Juan Jose Lopezex-soccer player and ex-technical director of Riverrecalled his beginnings and his career in the entity of nunez and, although it was part of the great history of the club, he stressed that the only thing he would take away from his sporting life “is the descent”which he suffered as a coach in 2011.
“I assumed the responsibility that I had to assume and that’s it. I never blamed third parties. I had to have said a lot of things to get rid of the responsibility, but I take care of what happens to me. I was an important part of a coaching staff, the head of the group, the results were not given with Belgrano and we had to go to relegation. They are football things, you lose more than you win, but it happens in all sports.”expressed Lopez in dialogue with Radio Rivadavia.
In the same vein, he added: “Nobody likes to go downhill and even less with the club you love. It’s the club I wear on my skin, the shirt. Good things happened to me, I played almost 11 years in the First Division, we came out champions after 18 years. But It hurts one, because you are in the day to day, you live in the kitchen of the club, you have to make decisions, wrong or not”.
“It was a good campaign, but it was not enough, unfortunately, and the atmosphere in River was not good for the players. The guy who plays every Sunday was sorry, there was a bad smell. But it’s over, the fans greet me, stop me. The one who saw me as a player treats me more for that than for a coach.”highlighted the treatment he receives from the public of the entity.
Later, he considered that the relegation cost him his career as technical director: “I think it will be difficult for me to direct again, I only directed two teams and in the interior (San Martín de Tucumán and Juventud Antoniana), I am not going to direct anymore. I don’t think I can do it again.”
“There is a litter of many young coaches and the great ones have to leave. I think it is time to leave the place to them. I am satisfied with everything that happened to me in sports, I would not change anything, only the relegation. Afterwards, I won’t I have nothing to reproach myself with, I was happy”, remarked the former coach of the Instituto y Talleres de Córdoba, among others.
As for the fan of Riveradded: “Most of them ask me what happened and they tell me that it wasn’t my fault for losing the category. I don’t blame myself for anything, nor do people reproach me much on the street.”
Besides, Lopezwho defended the club’s shirt nunez almost 11 seasons, he recalled his beginnings and highlighted the achievement of the 1975 title, which cut an 18-year streak without Olympic laps for the “Millionaire” team.
“We cut a streak of almost 18 years without winning champions. It turned out that we had a litter of players who were asking for first and River had many professionals and greats. Being very expensive, they cleaned up because they did not reach the titles”explained the former coach about how the team that remained in history was created.
“We had been playing third and well. That litter, in inferiors we haven’t won any tournament since ninth, however almost 11 or 12 players arrived. There they put together the squad with some great ones and I was among the boys”he added.
“After we got to the First Division, (Norberto) Alonso, (Daniel) Passarella and I, among many others, formed the 1975 team. They were key players, imagine that we played almost eight years together. Many good players had to leave because we had continuity and we managed to Titles”sentenced.
