After the surprising resignation of Fabián Doman this afternoon as president of Independiente, the Assembly of Representatives of the club has within 90 days to choose a replacement among the members of the current Board of Directors.
Article 98 of the institution’s Statute stipulates that during this period the first vice president will take office, a position he currently occupies the mayor of Lanús, Néstor Grindetti.
The Assembly of Representatives is composed of 62 members of the ruling party and 28 of the opposition (15 from Gente de Independiente and 13 from the political space of former head Hugo Moyano).
Requirements for the next president of Independiente
Although there are still no indications about who will take Doman’s position at the helm of Independiente, the Statute establishes that it must comply with a series of conditions to lead the club.
The future president of Independiente must meet the requirements set out in article 78: be older than 24 yearsarrange 10 years of membership, have no criminal record nor bank disqualification, not being a participant in companies that maintain a relationship with the clublack pending lawsuits against the institution and prove a paid activity.
Fabián Doman’s resignation
Doman, 58, assumed the presidency on October 6 and this afternoon submitted his resignation before a “an unprecedented economic, sports and judicial crisis,” he explained in a letter posted on Twitter.
“The magnitude of the crisis it was bigger than expected and, above all things, much lower income to what was presumed”, Doman added about the present of the club.
At the time of beginning his administration, Independiente had 27 debts with clubs, representatives and players, which reached a total of of US$22,871,087.
Doman’s resignation comes with the team without coach (directed by Pedro Monzón on an interim basis) and located 25th among 28 teams of the Professional League, in the week before the classic with Racing Clublocally
In his brief tenure, Doman filed a criminal complaint against former President Hugo Moyano and his son Pablo -vice-, among others, for the millionaire labor trial carried out by the soccer player Gonzalo Verón.
Verón, an Independiente footballer between 2018 and 2020, filed a lawsuit for labor damages and had a first favorable sentence from the Labor Court No. 2 of Avellaneda for $2,332 million with interest included.
