At 8 a.m. the handbikers started first. The participants of the inline skating half marathon and the quarter marathon are already on the route. The main competition starts at 9:30 a.m. You can register until just before the start on the A7 Voestbrücke. More than 140 police officers, hundreds of Red Cross employees, stewards and route helpers ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Locks in the Linz city area

The Mühlkreisautobahn A7 has been closed between the Prinz-Eugen-Strasse and Dornach junctions from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m. Traffic delays are to be expected throughout the city. You can find out here which roadblocks and detours there will be and where it is best to park:

The favourites

The women’s course record is currently 2:30:27 hours and was set by Kenyan Brenda Jerotich Kiprono in 2021. Hopes of breaking it rest on Germany’s Domenika Mayer. Mayer has a personal best of 2:26:50. “My clear goal is a new personal best and thus also reaching the Olympic standard,” says the currently fastest German marathon runner, who is now in top form again after health problems in autumn. She is challenged by Kyrgyz Serdana Trofimova (2:24:38), Ethiopian Tadelech Bekele Nedi (2:28:04) and Kenyans Teclah Chebet (2:30:30), Beatrice Jepkemei Cheburet and Rebecah Jeruto Cherop.

The Ethiopian Fikre Bekele set a new course record for men last year with 2:06:13 hours. Organizer Günther Weidlinger thinks it’s possible to undercut this mark this year. One could trust the German Simon Boch, his current best time is 2:10:48. His strongest opponents today will probably be the Kenyans Luke Kibet Cheruiyot (2:08:45), Cornelius Chepkok and Jackson Kemboi Rutto. Weidlinger also received the information at short notice that the Ukrainian runner Alexander Kuzin – his course record in Linz from 2007 held for 15 years – will come and start.

The weather

Luckily, the persistent heavy precipitation – like in the past few days – is over: Most of the time there is no precipitation, at times it can rain lightly. There are often dense clouds. However, a few relaxed, sunny phases are possible throughout the day. See the forecast in detail nachrichten.at/wetter.

The marathon on TV

Anyone who cannot be there today can also be helped. The ORF will broadcast live from 9.15 a.m., commentator Thomas Hölzl will be supported by former top runner Christian Pflügl and the well-known political scientist Peter Filzmaier.
