The most promising candidate for the podium in the Greco-Roman style is Markus Ragginger (up to 97 kg), who has already achieved two third places in tournaments in Egypt and Denmark in 2023. The ÖRSV believes that he can beat anyone if he is in good shape on the day.
With him in Greco-Roman style is Aker Al Obaidi, who will compete for Austria at a major event for the first time in the class up to 63 kg after his naturalization at the end of 2022. The Iraqi native, who came to Austria as a refugee, was selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be a member of an international refugee team at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Also at the European Championships are Michael Wagner (up to 82) and Lukas Staudacher (up to 87). In the free style, Simon Marchl (up to 74), Benjamin Greil (up to 86) and Johannes Ludescher (up to 125) represent the ÖRSV for men.
The only red-white-red woman, also in a free style, is Martina Kuenz (up to 76). The former European Vice Champion and bronze medalist at the 2018 World Championships did not start training again until March after suffering a long-term thumb injury.
