In his first Masters 1000 title, Rublev successfully fought back from a 1:4 deficit in the decisive set.
“In the third set I just hoped that I would have another chance to come back. And I did it in the end,” said Rublev happily: “I said to myself: If you lose today, then at least believe in yourself to the end. “
On the way to the final, Rublev had prevailed against Warsteiner Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarterfinals on Friday. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev from Hamburg was eliminated in the round of 16 against Russian Daniil Medvedev.
