The newly promoted ASV Linz, led by the French world-class grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and the Iranian junior world champion Parham Maghsoodloo, can now call themselves state chess champions. “It was closer than it looks on paper. Congratulations to my team,” said ASV Linz captain Michael Stöttinger, who also heads the Austrian Chess Federation. The award ceremony in the ballroom of the New City Hall was performed by Mayor Klaus Luger, who applauded appreciatively: “The capital of innovation and now also the capital of chess.” Second was defending champion Jenbach, third was SV St. Veit.
