Ex-Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos competed in a total of eleven Grands Prix. During a robbery in Amsterdam, the 41-year-old was robbed of his Rolex watch and cell phone. The police report shows that the perpetrators ambushed the Dutchman, who worked as a TV expert after his active career, using a GPS tracker. According to the report, the perpetrators struck when the ex-pilot had parked his car. According to the authorities, the incident took place in March, but has only now been made public so as not to jeopardize the investigation.
It was not the first attack on a driver from the Formula 1 racing team. Charles Leclerc (25) was attacked in April last year. A luxury watch was stolen from the Ferrari star in the run-up to the Imola Grand Prix in the Italian coastal town of Viareggio (near Florence). The Italian authorities recently announced that three men and one woman have been arrested on strong suspicion.
