The 2023 Argentine University Games begin with more than 13,000 students

The new edition of the Argentine University Games (JUAR)an annual, inclusive and federal sports competition in which more than 13,000 students of public and private institutions from all over the country, began today with the first activities in the National University of Salta within the framework of regional instances, it was officially reported.

“Sport is to compete, but also to share, and this is what begins today as part of a university system in which students are the protagonists”remarked the Minister of Education, Jaime Perczykduring the launching ceremony that took place at the Palacio Sarmiento.

In this sense, he added that the Argentine university “It is designed so that there are many students and university sports are an opportunity for them to develop their individual skills and teamwork” and highlighted the federal nature of the JUAR “that allows the participation of young people from all over the country”.

The Argentine University Games are an annual, federal and inclusive sports competition created in 2014 of which “around 13,000 students from public and private higher education institutions from all over the country participate”was indicated through a statement.

It brings together fourteen sports disciplines (chess, athletics, basketball, 3×3 basketball, soccer, futsal, handball, hockey, swimming, rugby, tennis, table tennis, volleyball and esports, both for women and men in all sports) and has two competition stages: regional and national.

The first is divided into nine regions in different parts of the country and the second brings together the athletes who have qualified from each instance to compete in the grand final.

The figure of the Yaguareté as an animated mascot, whose name is Yajuar, accompanies the sporting events of each instance and the institution that obtains the most points will be the winner of the JUAR Cup.

The presentation made this morning at the headquarters of the educational portfolio also included the Secretary of University Policies, Oscar Alpa; the Secretary of Sports of the Nation, Ines Arrondoand the head of the National Interuniversity Council (CIN), Carlos Greco.

“Less than a year ago we were here returning to face-to-face with these games, and today we meet to reaffirm our commitment to university sports. We call on you, students, who are the true protagonists of this public policy, to let’s continue working so that the Argentine University Games become a reality every year”he claimed alpa.

While, arrondo celebrated “the work that has been done by the Ministry of Education, including sport as an educational tool”.

And I add: “The University Games expand the possibilities of accessing sports competitions to thousands of young people in our country, improving educational quality”the official maintained.

“One of the challenges that we have from the National Government is to generate roots in the community, and that opportunities reach all corners of the country”he concluded.
