“Fortunately we’re playing away in Micheldorf today. It probably wouldn’t have been possible to play a home game today,” says Weißkirchen sports director Fritz Pflug. The background: There was a break-in at the Upper Austrian league facility in the night from Wednesday to Thursday – there was serious damage to property.
The perpetrator(s) were primarily targeting the canteen area of the clubhouse: a wall safe and a laptop were stolen, several doors were forced open, and self-service machines were destroyed and torn out. Since these are connected to water pipes, there was enormous water damage. Pflug: “Due to the large amounts of water, the electrical system in the basement was hit, which means that the floodlight system didn’t work yesterday either.”
Which means Weißkirchen has been the victim of a burglary for the second time in the past three years. Pflug: “We will have to learn lessons from this and think about installing cameras.”
