The German soccer record champion FC Bayern is reeling from one crisis to the next. After the Munich team dreamed of a treble a few weeks ago, there is now even a risk of a “salto nullo”. Bundesliga favorite number 1 is now Borussia Dortmund, the black and yellow stormed to the top with a 4-0 win over Frankfurt, Oliver Glasner’s team. The lead is one point. Bayern, who lost 3-1 in Mainz after a 1-0 lead, no longer have their sporting destiny in their own hands and the more complex remaining program than their arch-rivals (see bottom right).

“If we go away empty-handed, that would of course be a disaster for all of us. I know what it means if things don’t go well here. We all bear responsibility,” stressed FCB CEO Oliver Kahn.

The last season for the “Southern Star” without a title was in 2012. Now good advice is expensive, the team is like a shambles, three goals conceded within 14 minutes also leave neo-trainer Thomas Tuchel thoughtful. “There was no need to lose this game. I didn’t see any rebellion, I no longer felt the energy to resist. Then it goes there. I don’t know why. It’s incredibly difficult for us at the moment. It’s probably easy to do a lot is happening in the team. They can’t stand up anymore.” The words of the 49-year-old sound almost resigned, the sting of the defeat at his former place of work – Mainz was Tuchel’s first professional trainer station (from 2009 to 2014) – runs deep.

“There’s singing and cheering”

Kahn defends the separation of coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is said to have canceled Chelsea FC, with hands and feet. “It wasn’t just about the goals for the season, but about long-term planning.” Bayern club boss Herbert Hainer wants peace to return. “We’re concentrating on the championship, that will be difficult enough, as we saw in Mainz. We’ll talk about everything else later,” said the 68-year-old.

The contrast program delivers at the moment Dortmund. The Westphalians, who will be home three times in the last five rounds, are keen to end Bayern’s run of nine straight league titles. BVB is brimming with enthusiasm. “There’s singing, there’s cheering, there’s jumping. That’s how we imagine it,” said coach Edin Terzic, describing the mood in the dressing room after the thrashing of Frankfurt. Postscript: “We want to be more positive than ever.”

Eintracht naturally finds it difficult after a 0: 4, the Hessians are about to gamble away a European Cup starting place. “It’s a sh… phase at the moment, we’re on the defensive from the last hole. In football you experience everything in all directions,” said Glasner. The situation at bottom Hertha BSC is much worse. After the 2:4 against Bremen, the fans climbed onto the barricades.
