Now the alarm bells have to go off at second division soccer team SK Forward Steyr: The Red and Whites are new at the bottom of the table after the 2-1 defeat at the Rapid Wien amateurs. “The result does not quite match the performance”, forward coach Daniel Madlener was annoyed. On Tuesday, his team has the chance to give up at least the last place: Steyr welcomes Amstetten (6.30 p.m., Liwest Arena) in the third supplementary attempt.
“The Amstetten game is really important”also knows sports director Gerald Perzy, for whom a coaching discussion is currently not up for debate: “We also want to overcome a phase of weakness together with our coach.” But the 55-year-old also knows: “Of course, there is no carte blanche for anyone.”
Steyr’s performances are by no means bad – like Madlener, Perzy sees it that way: “I didn’t like the first 20 minutes against Rapid, but then we started the game well. We then had a great chance to equalize, but in return we got the 0:2. After the games, everyone always congratulates us on our performance, but now we finally need points.” Maybe the club chooses the wrong style of play? With Madlener, the focus is primarily on the playful aspect – can it be combined with a tough relegation battle? Percy: “We don’t want to act like a typical relegation team, there’s not much lack of implementation.”
Ronivaldo as life insurance
In the upper regions of the table it remains a three-way battle for the title: After leader St. Pölten had already presented with the 2-0 home win against Admira on Friday, second-placed Blau-Weiss Linz beat Linz 1-0 Dornbirn and today the third GAK (3:2 at Lafnitz) followed suit. More and more goalscorer Ronivaldo is currently mutating into blue-white life insurance: The gold goal against Vorarlberg was his 14th goal of the season. In the last five duels, the 34-year-old has scored seven times, and he has already scored nine goals in total in the spring.
