Bottom light Ried was not able to take full advantage of Altach’s blunder, but at least made up ground. On Saturday, SVR looked like the winners against Austria Lustenau after being 1:3 down at the break and catching up to 4:3, but conceded the 4:4 in injury time. With five laps to go, Ried moved up to one point on Altach. Promoted Lustenau defended first place in the qualifying group of the Bundesliga, but is mathematically not saved.
“It’s a very ambivalent feeling after the game. It feels like the 4-3 deserved. It was a bitter penalty, after that it took us too long to catch up,” said Ried coach Maximilian Senft the match. “Of course we are not satisfied with the first half. We probably hit the right levers at half-time. After the game I told the players that the championship would not be decided until the final whistle of the last game and not today,” said Senft .
Early leadership for Lustenau
Lustenau took an early lead from a penalty by Lukas Fridrikas (6′) and seemed to have decided the game before the break thanks to Yadaly Diaby (36′) and Fridrikas (41′). Belmin Beganovic (20′), Diego Madritsch (49′), Christoph Lang (57′) and an own goal by Matthias Maak (74′) turned the crazy game upside down in favor of the committed and dominant hosts before Michael Cheukoua (93 .) which silenced the Rieder fans.
The game started extremely unluckily for Ried. Beganovic got hold of the ball, which bounced with a lot of spin in the penalty area, referee Andreas Heiss pointed to the penalty spot. Fridrikas converted confidently, but this only fueled the enthusiasm of the home side. They were the decisive team, were threatened several times by set pieces and also found the greatest chance to date through Seifedin Chabbi: only the foot defense of Lustenau goalie Domenik Schierl prevented the 1:1 (19th).
But a minute later it was time. Lustenau lost the ball on the right side of defence, Beganovic switched quickly, moved towards the goal and made up for his lapse in the early phase with a humorless low shot into the far post. Lustenau, without the suspended Anderson and defender Jean Hugonet, could hardly break free against the poisonous Rieder, the new lead came almost out of nowhere. Diaby danced his way in front of the penalty area and finished with an exact low shot into the right corner.
With the courage of despair
A little later it worked with the counterattack. After exemplary preliminary work by Stefano Surdanovic, the ball came to Fridrikas via Hakim Guenouche, who sensitively lifted the running Samuel Sahin-Radlinger from the right outside. The “Vikings” started the second half with the courage of despair, Madritsch’s powerful shot crowned the urge phase after stabbing the penalty area with the goal.
Ried stayed on the trigger, only seconds later Schierl saved after a defensive mistake in dire need (50′). Minutes later, a quick action through the middle left the Lustenau defenders amazed and Lang in a solo position, who finished with the equalizer. When Maak’s rescue attempt went into his own goal at the beginning of the final quarter of an hour, the comeback seemed perfect. Lustenau, without a real chance to score in the second half, didn’t give up and, thanks to Cheukoua, managed to equalize somewhat in added time.
