The Spaniard defeated Croatian Borna Coric (17) 6-4, 6-3 on Friday. In the final on Sunday it is against the German lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff or the Russian qualifier Aslan Karazew. If Alcaraz wins the title again, he would move up to five points behind Serbian leader Novak Djokovic in the world rankings.
“It’s a special place for me,” said Alcaraz, remembering last year’s success in Madrid, and the local hero even mentioned his former appearance in the Spanish capital in the U12 tournament. “I’m not thinking about the pressure here. I’m just thinking about playing great matches and getting good results. I’m enjoying every single second here.”
