The southern Italians returned to the Serie A throne for the first time since 1990, coach Luciano Spalletti’s team secured the third “Scudetto” in the club’s history after the glorious days with legend Diego Maradona.
Spalletti was overcome with emotion after the final whistle. The 64-year-old Italian cried in a TV interview on DAZN when he commemorated his brother, who died four years ago, at the moment of his triumph. Looking at the live images from Naples, where tens of thousands of fans were celebrating, the coach spoke of “great satisfaction”. There are people “who will now be able to overcome difficult moments in their lives because they remember this moment. These people deserve all the joy,” says Spalletti.
With shimmering blue hair, Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo spoke of a “super-deserved” championship. Rightly so, the table shows a lead of 16 points over pursuer Lazio Roma.
