At the end of the 26th round on Sunday, the leaders of the table did not get more than a 1:1 (1:0) draw at home against bottom of the table Vorwarts Steyr. The lead over pursuers Blau-Weiss Linz, who played 1-1 against FAC on Friday, is still one point. Thanks to a 5-2 win at Sturm Graz II, Admira managed to break free in the relegation battle.
In St. Pölten, the hosts took the lead, as befitted their status. After a cross from Jaden Montnor, Benedict Scharner pushed in from close range (33′). Shortly after the change of sides, a missed penalty caused a stir for the league leaders. As the game progressed, however, St. Pölten became too passive and conceded the equalizer through Kubilay Yilmaz (77′). Shortly before the end of the game, Daniel Schütz narrowly missed the winning goal for the Lower Austrians with an overhead kick (89th). In the next round there will be a top game between Blau-Weiss Linz and St. Pölten on Friday.
Admira was already 2-0 up after 24 minutes. However, the Südstadt team went into the dressing room with a 2-2 lead and a man down after Lukas Malicsek saw the yellow-red card (45+1). Outnumbered, Admira achieved an enormously important success thanks to a penalty from Angelo Gattermayer (70′) and further goals from George Davies (83′) and Reinhard Young (95′) and jumped to twelfth place. Sturm Graz II slipped to 14th place.
