The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) sanctioned River Plate with a fine of $8,000 for the use of flares during the match against Sporting Cristalplayed on April 19 at the Monumental stadium.

In a statement posted on its website, conmebol imposed on River Plate “a fine of eight thousand dollars for the violation of article 12.2 literal c) of the Disciplinary Code in accordance with article 27 of the same legal body.”
The note refers to the use of flares that night at the Monumental stadium and warns that if the use of pyrotechnics is repeated, the field could be partially or totally closed, for a period of two games.
That night, River defeated Cristal 4-2 in a match corresponding to the second date of group D of the Copa Libertadores de América soccer.
