During one of the trials recorded last Friday, the 31-year-old from Cordoba felt discomfort in his left hand and resulted -according to subsequent medical examinations- with a “metacarpal fracture” in his left hand.

“Tati (Mercado) had a slip on the front wheel,” said the team leader of the Japanese team, Emil Weber.
“He tried to grab the bike, but he fell on the road. Unfortunately, the season started badly for us” added the Kawasaki member.
Mercado left the Sachsenring racetrack today, where the first qualifying round for tomorrow’s competition was held, with “his left hand in a cast. He will take a flight from Berlin to Italy, where he resides, ”said Weber, according to a report from the category site (IDM).
Local driver Florian Alt (Honda) achieved the best qualifying time and will start tomorrow in first place. Behind were the Estonian Hannes Soomer (Honda), the Ukrainian Ilya Mikhalchik (BMW) and the Russian Vladimir Leonov (Yamaha).
