The German tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann unexpectedly reached the third round at the Masters tournament in Rome.
Hanfmann, who slipped into the main draw as a qualifier, won 6:4, 6:1 against the ninth seeded American Taylor Fritz. The 31-year-old from Karlsruhe, who is currently only number 101 in the world rankings, was quickly 0:3 behind, but then won in just 71 minutes. Hanfmann now meets the Italian Marco Checchinato.
Daniel Altmaier and Alexander Zverev should also play their second round games at the clay court event this Sunday, which is used to prepare for the French Open.
