FC Bayern Munich may have to do without Alphonso Davies for a long time. As the Canadian Football Association announced, the 20-year-old sustained an ankle injury while preparing the Canadian national team for the Gold Cup (July 10th to August 1st), which meant the end of the tournament.

In the announcement, the association did not go into more detail about the severity of the injury and merely stated that Davies had already left to begin rehab with the German record champions. From the FCB there was still no comment on the injury of the left-back on Friday evening.

Alphonso Davies: Downtime still unclear

Canada will now face Martinique, Haiti and the USA in the group stage of the Gold Cup without Davies. Participation in the tournament would have meant that Davies would have entered the pre-season much later and even missed competitive games.

For Bayern, the cup game at Bremen SV is on August 6th. In contrast to the Olympic Games, Bayern would not have had a chance at the Gold Cup not to relinquish the player. How long Davies will be absent from the record champions due to his injury is still unclear.
