On Saturday at the ATP 100 Challenger in Mauthausen, Austria’s top man Dominic Thiem lost in the semifinals against the eventual tournament winner Hamad Medjedovic. Immediately afterwards he traveled on to the Challenger in Bordeaux, where the final preparation for the French Open in Paris is now beginning. With the French “enfant terrible” Benoit Paire, an unpleasant opponent awaits today at the start.
The tournament also put out feelers to Rafael Nadal, but the Spanish clay court king refused a wildcard. The 14-time Paris Champion seems to be swimming away more and more from his favorite tournament. The 36-year-old has been sidelined since the Australian Open due to a hip flexor injury.
