MILAN. Inter Milan is the first finalist in this year’s football Champions League. Coach Simone Inzaghi’s team also won the second derby against AC Milan 1-0 (0-0) yesterday – and thus rose with an overall score of 3-0.
It is Inter’s first appearance in a final since winning under Jose Mourinho in 2010. It never seemed like Milan could get any closer after losing the first leg. There were hardly any chances worth mentioning before the break. And after the change of sides, when AC Milan then ran up with the spirit of desperation, Inter struck again.
After a nice combination with Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez shot from a tight angle – and surprised Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan (74th). It’s getting really tricky for Milan now. Because in the league too, being fifth in the table and four points behind fourth-placed Lazio Rome is not on course for the Champions League.
One will probably have to hope for a point deduction for Juventus. The people of Turin are still waiting for the punishment for an accounting fraud affair.
A particularly difficult task awaits David Alaba in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals. With defending champions Real Madrid, the ÖFB star has to defuse Manchester City and “goal machine” Erling Haaland again today (9 p.m./live Servus TV and Sky) in the Etihad Stadium.
The first leg a week ago in Madrid ended 1-1. In any case, Alaba’s dream of a fourth CL triumph is alive. However, the designated English champion is a slight favourite. Because Pep Guardiola’s “Citizens” welcome Carlo Ancelotti’s team with the treble dream in mind and are in excellent form. The Guardiola team has not lost 22 competitive games recently and celebrated 18 victories.
