Midfielder Nicolo Barella has had a hard time with Lothar Matthäus. The German record international showered him with compliments.
Lothar Matthäus was very enthusiastic about Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella. “I love him. He’s the perfect box-to-box player,” said the record German national player Gazzetta dello Sport. Barella joined the Nerazzurri on loan from Cagliari in 2019, before being signed in 2020.
According to media reports from Italy, the 24-year-old is now to extend his contract with Inter, which runs until 2024, ahead of schedule until 2026. The club’s official statement is expected before the Milan derby next weekend.
Matthäus: Barella could play at any top club
If Barella were to commit to Inter in the long term, Matthäus would be happy. “His quality and mentality are unparalleled in football,” he stated. “I’m happy that he’s at Inter because he could play at any top club in Europe,” added Matthäus.
Since his debut in October 2018, Barella has made 33 appearances for Italy. He was a regular at Squadra Azzurra that summer when the team won the European title in London.
