West Ham players defended their loved ones from a hooligan mob

Videos on social media show that immediately after the 1-0 home defeat, Alkmaar hooligans tried to storm the main stand of the AFAS stadium in Alkmaar

A group of hooded men broke through a fence to get down a flight of stairs to the lower part of the grandstand. This sector is said to have been home to the players’ friends and families at the time.

Footage shows both fans and players involved in the scuffle. West Ham players Lucas Paqueta, Said Benrahma and Flyn Downes are right in the thick of it. Wild scenes take place.

Even before the game, there had been wild arguments between the two fan camps.
