Füchse Berlin have reached the final of the European League and thus saved their last chance for the title. After a strong second half, the Berliners clearly won their semi-final against the French top team Montpellier HB at the Final Four in Flensburg with 35:29 (16:16).

The final will take place on Sunday (6 p.m. / DAZN). Opponent is the winner of the game between Bundesliga club FA Göppingen and the Spaniards from BM Granollers. The best Berlin throwers were Hans Lindberg with eight goals, as well as Mathias Gidsel and Mijajlo Marsenic with six goals each.

The foxes got into the game solidly at first, until the score was 3:3 everything was balanced. But then the mistakes in the Berlin game began to pile up. In defense there was a lack of access, keeper Dejan Milosavljev could hardly get a ball and in attack they made some weak shots and technical errors. After eleven and a half minutes the foxes were 5:8 behind.

With momentum in the second half

But the Berliners fought, kept coming back, but didn’t take the chance to equalize several times. At the end of the first half, however, the defense was much more stable and the French were no longer able to score easy goals. And now Milosavljev also shone with some saves. A good minute before the half-time siren, the Berliners were able to equalize again to 15:15 after a long time.

And they carried that momentum into the second half. Gidsel gave his team the lead for the first time right after the break. The foxes now dominated the game, played much more efficiently in attack and Montpellier increasingly despaired of Milosavljev’s saves. With a 9:3 run, the Berliners pulled away after 42 minutes (25:19). And the Bundesliga club couldn’t take that away until the end.
