Bear shock for the Finnish biathlete Erika Jänkä: During her training in Finland she met two brown bears in the forest. One ignored her, the other approached her aggressively, as she described to the Finnish newspaper “Kuhmolainen”. The 27-year-old then instinctively lay down on the floor and reacted in the right way.
The bear got in touch, but in the end he left her alone. “I felt it on my ankles and feet,” reported Jänkä. In an emotional Instagram post, she reviewed the events. “Yesterday’s encounter in the wild will stay with me for a long time. The experience of a strong, certain fear of death is something that cannot be prepared for.”
Jänkä last competed for Finland at the 2023 World Championships in Oberhof and also at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
