All he thinks about is “the joy I can give the fans,” says Jose Mourinho, whose AS Roma meet Sevilla FC in the Europa League final in Budapest today (9 p.m., live on Servus TV). The Portuguese doesn’t seem to care that he would become the sole record coach if he were to win six titles at European level. Mourinho and Egotrip, that was once.

Six wins in six finals would mean the Portuguese if Roma win at the Puskas Arena today. With FC Porto, Mourinho won the Europa League in 2003 and the Champions League sensationally in 2004. Six years later he won the premier class with Inter Milan, then again the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017 before triumphing with Roma in the Conference League last year. He still shares the record with Italy’s veteran Giovanni Trapattoni, who has also won five European titles. The 60-year-old doesn’t want to deal with his own story before the final. Rather, he warns against FC Sevilla, which has triumphed in all finals at European level since 2006. In addition to the defense, which Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle described as a “bulwark” after losing to Roma in the play-off, the offensive could also speak for the Mourinho club. Offensive man Paulo Dybala is fit again.
