According to managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, Borussia Dortmund does not have to fear any long-term consequences despite the dramatically missed championship.
“Not at all! Anyone who thinks that is so wrong,” said Watzke of “Sport Bild”. BVB was not broken by the bomb attack on the team bus in 2017, nor by the 2-1 defeat in the Champions League final against FC Bayern Munich in 2013. Dortmund would “definitely not break because of this league final”, said Watzke.
On the last day of the match, BVB, as leaders of the table, had lost the possible title win. A 2-2 draw against Mainz wasn’t enough because Bayern won 2-1 in Cologne with a late goal from Jamal Musiala and passed Dortmund.
