The Hungarian national player had to report to sports director Max Eberl and coach Marco Rose. The reason is an interview on the club premises with the Hungarian newspaper “Index”, which was not agreed with the club. Szoboszlai is tied to Leipzig until 2026, but can be bought out of his contract for 70 million euros.

A few days before the cup final on Saturday (8 p.m. / ZDF and Sky) against Eintracht Frankfurt, the theater around Szoboszlai does not suit the bosses at all. The former Salzburg kicker had avoided a commitment to Leipzig and emphasized that he didn’t want to look back on his career one day “and have to realize that he hadn’t made the best of it”. The “kicker” is now suspecting a high fine for the 22-year-old. Newcastle United are interested in Szoboszlai and have watched him on several occasions. The transfer fee would not be a problem for the club, which has sponsorship money from Saudi Arabia.
