She had stood aside. Somewhere between the confetti snippets that had rained down on the lawn of the PSV stadium in Eindhoven. For a long time, Alexandra Popp didn’t feel the strength to ask the traveling supporters of VfL Wolfsburg for encouragement, which would have been appropriate after a shimmering final in the Women’s Champions League. Someone wanted to be alone with the pain first: The 2: 3 (2: 0) defeat against FC Barcelona apparently hurt her even more than the many punches and kicks that Germany’s most famous soccer player in a fight between two cultures worth seeing had gotten.
