The titles at the 3×3 basketball world championships in Vienna on Sunday went to the women of the USA (16:12 against France) and the men of Serbia (21:19 against the USA). But Austria’s teams also sold expensively in the home title fights.
The ÖBV men delivered a strong fight against the world and European champion Serbia on Saturday evening in the quarterfinals, but in the end they lost out with 18:21. The female ÖBV team had already failed after a courageous performance with 17:21 at the USA.
“We’re in the top eight in the world, a lot will happen in the future. Serbia has a tough team, but we’ll have them soon,” said Filip Kramer optimistically about the future. The qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris should succeed and a good result should be achieved there. “That’s the big goal,” emphasized Austria’s men’s coach Milan Isakov.
The women were also close to a sensation. “There’s no reason to hang your head, we played very well and were able to keep up until the end,” summed up Sigrid Kroizar, one of the most important pillars of the national team alongside Schörflinger Sarah Sagerer.
Thomas Klepeisz is in the final of the German Basketball Bundesliga for the first time. The 31-year-old ÖBV national team player won with Ulm 104:102 after extra time against FC Bayern Munich and thus also the third game in the “best of five” of the semi-finals. The championship title is now up against Bonn on Friday.
