VfB Stuttgart managed to stay up in the league in a roundabout way: Four days after the 3-0 home win in the relegation first leg against Hamburger SV, the table 16 sat down. last season also away 3:1 (0:1) and thus prevented the third relegation since 2016. The traditional Hamburg club, which failed last year in the relegation to Hertha BSC, is looking forward to a sixth year in the second division.

Sonny Kittel (6th) gave the second division third party an early lead in front of 55,500 spectators and raised hopes of a miracle after the sobering performance in the first leg. But Enzo Millot (48′, 64′) turned the game around in the second half, with his second goal thanks to a fatal mistake by HSV goalie Daniel Heuer Fernandes. Silas Katompa Mvumpa (97th) only had statistical value.
