The teams from Uruguay and Italy qualified for the final of the Under 20 World Cup that takes place in Argentina, after beating Israel and South Korea, respectively, in two games played at the Diego Armando Maradona de La Plata stadium, for the semifinals .
The decisive match will be held on Sunday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. on the same stage, while on the same day, but at 2:30 p.m., the clash for Third Place will take place.
Uruguay beat Israel 1-0 in the first round, in a match that was difficult for them, since the rival managed to lock them up in their field and hoard the ball to generate danger in the “Charrúa” area, but the precision of the ball was lacking. Time to get on the scoreboard.
Anderson Duarte, 16 minutes into the plugin, defined the game after a rebound off the post that was served to push the ball into the net.
Uruguay will go for its first Under 20 world title, since in the two finals to which it agreed it could not achieve it. In Malaysia 1997 they lost 2-1 against José Pekerman’s Argentina, while in Turkey 2013 they lost to France 4-1 on penalties, after equalizing 0-0 in the 90 regulation minutes and the extra time.
In the other semifinal, Italy also suffered against South Korea, but finally beat it 2-1 and will play in the final of a World Cup in this category for the first time.
Cesare Casadei, the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals, opened the score for the “Azzurra” after 14 minutes of play, while Lee Seung-Won, at 22 of the initial stage, temporarily equalized for the Asians, after a penalty marked by VAR. At 41 minutes into the plugin, Simone Pafundi scored a great free kick goal for the final 2-1.
For the Italians it will be the first final in their history in the category, since the furthest they had reached was third place in South Korea 2017, when they beat Uruguay 4-1 on penalties after 0-0 in the 120 minutes. In Poland 2019 it was in fourth place after being defeated 1-0 against Ecuador.
