Dogos from Argentina fell in the SLAR final against Peñarol from Uruguay by 23-17 in Montevideo

Dogos from Argentina lost the final of the American Rugby Super League (SLAR) after falling in the final against Peñarol from Uruguay by 23-17 (first half 17-0) in the decisive match played at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo.

It was the third edition of the SLAR, with the Argentine franchise Jaguares XV winning the 2021 one and Peñarol becoming two-time champion by obtaining the 2022 and 2023 ones, in a contest that also included the participation of Cobras from Brazil, Selknam from Chile and American Raptors from the United States.

Peñarol achieved his goals with tries from Sanatigo Alvarez and Ignacio Péculo, two conversions, two penalties and a drop from Felipe Etcheverry, who added 13 of the 23 goals.

On the side of Dogos, a franchise based in Córdoba, added a penalty try and a try by Ernesto Giúdice, plus a conversion and a penalty by Julián Hernández.

After 32 minutes of play, the final was practically sentenced when the eastern team, base of the Uruguayan national team that will play the World Cup in France this year, established a difference of 17 to 0

The experience of a team formed against a franchise that had a notable debut in its first international experience made itself felt from the beginning, dominating the maul and taking advantage of Dogos’s youthful sins.

Peñarol was the best in the first phase with 11 wins out of the 13 games played and they only lost to Los Pampas in the duels at CASI (20-19) and in their only loss in Uruguay (16-10).

For their part, Dogos XV and beat Los Pampas three times in the classic between Argentine franchises, although they lost on three occasions against Eñarol 41-35 in Córdoba, 33-15 at Charrúa and last night.
