Under a deluge fallen in Montreal, the Dutch max verstappen (Red Bull) achieved this Saturday the first starting position of the Canadian Grand Prix of Formula 1with the German Nico Hülkenberg reaching a surprising second place and the Spanish Fernando Alonso third.
Verstappen, winner of the last two Formula 1 titles, continues to be intractable and added his fifth pole position out of eight possible so far this season and the 25th of his unstoppable career.
The 25-year-old Dutchman will also have a good chance on Sunday to extend his lead in the general classification over the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Perezhis Red Bull teammate, who will have to come back from twelfth place.
It was a chaotic day at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where thousands of fans stoically endured the intermittent and sometimes ferocious rain. The choice of tires gained substantial importance for the teams’ strategy.

At the end of a tangled classification, the German Hülkenberg managed to slip into the middle of the fight between Verstappen and Alonso to achieve second position on the grid.
For his part, the Spanish veteran confirmed his reliability this season and achieved a result that allows him to aspire to his fifth podium of the season, in which he occupies third position in the general table.
The British Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, from the Mercedes team, will start from fourth and fifth position on the grid on Sunday, when the sun is expected to return for the Grand Prix, which will start at 3:00 p.m. in our country, with Fox Sports and Star+ television.
Among the disappointments of the day were the two Ferrari drivers, the Spanish Carlos Sainz (8th) and the Monegasque charles leclerc (11th), in addition to the Mexican ‘Checo’ Pérez (12th), who was left out of the last part of the classification for the second consecutive Grand Prix.
In his case, Sainz was relieved to see how the damage his car suffered in testing was repaired in time for qualifying.

Like last year, Montreal qualifying began in cold and wet conditions that did not allow for optimal tire temperatures for most teams.
The two Williams of Alexander Albon and American rookie Logan Sargeant led the first part of qualifying before Zhou Guanyu’s Alfa Romeo suffered on-track problems causing a red flag.
In the second part it was the Thai Albon who surprisingly set the best time and in the third Verstappen took command before it was interrupted after four minutes by another red flag, caused by an off track by the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren).
With their car evacuated, the final phase resumed in torrential rain with neither driver able to improve their times.
