After the cancellation of Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime due to injury, Austria’s tennis star Dominic Thiem will have to deal with Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (D) at the start of his short grass season at the 2.195 million euro tournament in Halle on Tuesday.
“I will have to improve significantly,” says Thiem after the disappointment of Perugia, where he defeated the Italian world number 260 in the first round. Stefano Travaglia lost. Thiem (ATP No. 89) and Zverev (No. 23) are good friends, the two will meet for the 13th time.
The 29-year-old from Lichtenwörther leads 8:4 head-to-head, but the two most recent duels went to the man from Hamburg. Thiem celebrated the greatest success of his career against Zverev – namely in the US Open final in 2020.
