Promes is currently at Spartak Moscow and it is uncertain whether he will return to the Netherlands.
As the Dutch TV broadcaster RTL reported, the football professional’s lawyer will appeal the verdict. In March, prosecutors had asked for two years in prison for him.
Promes is also charged with drug smuggling. Together with an accomplice, he is said to have imported a total of 1,360 kilograms of cocaine to Belgium or the Netherlands in January 2020.
