Austria’s basketball champion OCS Swans Gmunden has made a fundamental decision: In contrast to last year, the club will not be nominated for the Champions League qualification and the FIBA Europe Cup. This adventure devoured almost 100,000 euros, but after the entry of OCS in summer 2022 (as name sponsor) economic factors are not decisive for the no. “We looked at it, it would be affordable,” said CFO Harald Stelzer.

The problem zone is in the local Raiffeisen Sportpark, which has to undergo a general overhaul due to infrastructural problems (water, soil). The heating system is also checked. The surfacing work begins on June 29th and will take several weeks. “It’s too uncertain for us, we’ll take a year off,” explained Stelzer.

Is successful coach Mirolybov leaving?

However, European appearances in autumn are not entirely out of the question. Participation in the Alpe Adria Cup is still in the air, the Swans have until mid-July to confirm for this competition. Irrespective of this, the whereabouts of successful coach Anton Mirolybov is open.

The Finn has to declare by the end of June whether he would like to continue working at Lake Traunsee. He can no longer rely on his reliable and qualified assistant Aleksi Koskinen, he is returning – as reported – to his Finnish homeland.

Mirolybov basically feels that he is in good hands in Gmunden, but it is no secret that he is aiming for a career in a stronger league. According to reports, the 45-year-old has an offer from the top Spanish division ACB.
