After the 2-0 home defeat against Colombia in Gelsenkirchen, Germany’s tabloid “Bild” shot at national soccer coach Hansi Flick and is campaigning for his transfer.

The former triple winner with FC Bayern (2020) seems to have lost his credit after the fourth country match without a win, even if DFB sports director Rudi Völler continues to support him.

“Help, Flick is destroying the EM for us” was the headline of “Bild” with a view to the home tournament in June 2024 and gave the team boss a grade of 6 for line-up, change and tactical alignment. It couldn’t be worse. The newspaper also asked the DFB to make intensive efforts to get Liverpool star coach Jürgen Klopp engaged.

Nine percent for Oliver Glasner

In a public vote with the question “Who should be our national coach at the European Championships?” the 56-year-old received by far the most votes with 48 percent. Seven men were put on the list of candidates by “Bild” – including ex-Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner, who made it to nine percent.

Flick (still) enjoys ten percent of the trust, Julian Nagelsmann at 17, Matthias Sammer at nine, Völler at five and the former Salzburg coach Roger Schmidt at two percent.

Not up for debate is the red-white-red team boss Ralf Rangnick (quote: “Now I’m finally an Austrian”), whose contract initially runs until 2024 and in the event of a successful European Championship qualification (after that it looks very clear) automatically extended until the 2026 World Cup in the USA.

Irrespective of this, a number of football fans in Germany would like the Rangnick solution because they see that Austria’s national team is extremely strong and clearly bears the 64-year-old’s signature. At Flick you don’t get that feeling during a wild experimental phase.

“A bit the poorest sow”

Völler doesn’t hold the coach responsible, but the players and announces personnel consequences for the next course in autumn: “The quality isn’t the greatest. There were a few who we might not see in September.” And: “The coach is a bit the poorest pig.”

Despite the recent failures, Flick is not thinking of throwing in the towel: “What we tried failed. But we will continue on the path we have taken without making compromises.” How long?
