Things are going really well for the Austrian U21 national team at the moment. The team coached by Werner Gregoritsch did not lose any of the last eight preparatory games. The Austrians go into the qualifiers for the U-21 European Championship 2015 with a correspondingly high level of self-confidence. The Austrians will play their first game on the way to the European Championship, which will take place in Slovakia, on September 7th against Cyprus. The home kick-off is on Tuesday, September 12, in the “Innviertel Arena” across the stage in Ried.
“We are happy to be able to host this important qualifier for the U21 national team again. We will do everything we can to offer Werner Gregoritsch’s team the best possible conditions in Ried”says SV Ried Managing Director Rainer Wöllinger and adds: “I call on all football fans to come back to the stadium in large numbers and to support the team as best they can.”
Gregoritsch describes the conditions and the stadium in Ried as “perfect for the U21 national team”. You saw against Iceland the energy the team got from the atmosphere in Ried. “The game against Bosnia-Herzegovina is very important for the further course of the qualification”says Gregorych.
“The general conditions in Ried are first class and the fans have proven in the past that they support our team loudly. SV Ried does everything to make the U21 team feel welcome in Ried. The local conditions also speak for Ried as an important location for the U21 team”says Bernhard Neuhold, Managing Director of ÖFB Wirtschaftsbetriebe GmbH.
According to OÖN information, it is quite possible that further home games of the European Championship qualification could be played in Ried. So far, however, only the game against Bosnia-Herzegovina has been fixed.
The opponents in Group H are: France, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus
About the qualification mode: The nine group winners and the three best runners-up will qualify directly for the finals in summer 2025 alongside hosts Slovakia. The other six runners-up will determine the last three finalists in the play-offs in November 2024.
