Di María wore the colors of Benfica after his professional baptism at Rosario Central. The Portuguese team was his first team in Europe, prior to his passing through Real Madrid, PSG, Juventus and Manchester United.
In his first spell with Benfica, which lasted until mid-2010, the Argentine striker completed 121 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 28 assists. He was also champion on one occasion of the Portuguese League and won two Portuguese Cups.
“I feel the same as I felt when I arrived for the first time. The dreams, the desire to compete and win things. This year the club won the 38 (League). We hope to be able to win the 39”, he concluded in a brief speech in which he accompanied by the Portuguese President Rui Costa.
Throughout his career, Di María won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid, among the 33 titles he has.
