After five years as a Ukraine coach, Shevchenko takes on his first coaching position at club level. The relegation battle is now on in Genoa.
Former Ukrainian national player and coach Andriy Shevchenko takes over as coach at the Italian first division club FC Genoa. The club confirmed that on Sunday.
The 45-year-old replaces Davide Ballardini, who was dismissed on Saturday, and receives a contract dated until 2024.
Serie A: Will Shevchenko keep relegation with Genoa?
For Shevchenko, it is the second head coach position, after having worked as coach of the Ukrainian national team for the last five years.
In Genoa, the former Milan striker, who won the Champions League during his playing career and was crowned Ballon d’Or winner, now has to adjust to the relegation battle. The club is currently only in 18th place in the table after twelve match days.
